Anomic Team #1

*** WARNING NOT YET VERIFIED FOR LATEST PATCH ***
*** WARNING NOT YET VERIFIED FOR LATEST PATCH ***

Another Anomic mission, this time it's the new team variety!  For those keeping score at home, it was offered after 8 successful and 2 declined vanilla lvl4s.

Here's the mission text, with my emphasis added in bold:
Anomic Team
I have a special optional mission for you, we won’t penalize you if you decline it.
A crack commando team, former members of the Republic Fleet, have struck out on their own. We don't know why, but we want you to hunt them down.

They have all scans open, so we can't go there in force. We've acquired their coordinates and need someone to sneak in and take them out. It's you against them.
Only frigate sized ships can gain entry to the hideout, so don’t try to bring anything bigger.
The leader of this gang flies a Jaguar-class Assault Frigate. She fits her ship with Autocannons loaded with Republic Fleet Fusion ammo, and never leaves home without a Stasis Webifier and Warp Scrambler. She is backed up by two allies in Burst-class Support Frigates, which can use Remote Shield Transporters to keep themselves and their leader alive. I advise you to do everything in your power to eliminate the Bursts early in the fight.
A word of warning: these soldiers of fortune are extremely dangerous and have proven very capable of destroying capsuleer ships. If you choose to decline this mission or if you fail to complete it, you will not lose any standings.
Payout:  5M bounties, 2.17M isk base completion, 2.32M isk time bonus, just over 10k LP.

Read on for the fit and the battle report....

I tried this fit first.  It DID NOT WORK, as applied dps was too low.  (That's what I get for trying to be clever with random crap I have sitting in my hangar).  I survived, as the speed (made possible only by my off grid booster!) kept me out of scram range, but was making no headway against the Logi ship.

I scratched my head a bit, and then ponied up the isk for the Garmur fit being bantered around on forums.  It's a kite fit, and I'm a kite kind of guy, so what the heck.

Dropping this kind of coin on a frigate fit is not what I generally had in mind when I started this blog and crying for more frigate PVE.  When Burners were announced, I pictured myself dusting off the ol' Kestrel and Merlin and having some low-cost fun.  Ahh, well.

In time, I assume that things will settle out a bit and more fits will bubble up to the top.  I also look at it as an investment: one ship to do all Team burners vs. 3 or 4 separate ships to buy and fit out over the course of the next few weeks.

And the Garmur looks schweeeeet.

Battle Report:  I managed to get back to my hub from Amarr without getting ganked.  That was step one.

This fight is a little finikey in distance, because your missiles have finite range and you're not orbiting your target (rather, you're orbiting the Jaguar while shooting at the Logi ships).  The Jag also likes to return to the warp-in beacon after you drag him ~155km or so, which means some oddness in ranging on the Logistics ships.

Be patient, keep orbiting the Jag and wait for the ranges to work themselves out.  If you get impatient and go after the Logis, I expect Mr. Jag will kick you in the groin.

Before going into the fight, set your default orbit to 35km and activate the Sensor booster.  Upon landing after warp in, orbit the Jag, turn on the ABII, then worry about targeting things.  Keep your eye on the Jag, and be prepared to make an emergency exit if your orbit distance gets jacked up.

I initially fit T2 missiles, but found that I could not break the first Logi's tank, even when burning out my launcher rack.  After some head scratching I realized the Forum fit above uses Faction ammo, which has a favorable explosion velocity and radius.

I had no idea.  Burners are becoming very educational.

(Note, the Hawk fit above would benefit from Faction ammo, but still probably wouldn't work...)

A quick trip to the store, and I was back in business.  Thanks to the range weirdness, the first Logi got out of range and healed almost to full after I got him almost to structure.  But the Faction missiles work MUCH better and I was soon scooping loot.  The 2nd Logi folds like a wet paper towel without a buddy to rep him.  Swap to Scourge missiles for the Jag and finish him off.

No overheat required, and by far the lowest stress burner mission I've done to date.

PS:  Loot sucked.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I have really struggled with these burner missions, so I'm grateful for your insights - it hadn't occurred to me to use faction ammo, but as you discovered, it makes enough of a difference to break the tank and make some actual progress. So, thank you for your insights; much appreciated!

    1. Glad it helps! I can't take credit for the original fit on this one, but the Garmur has treated me very well for the team-frigate burners.

After some minor missile changes a few months back, the Jaguar encounter is (barely) do-able solo with the Garmur. It can be done, but it takes some patience and luck with ranges and the target painters. Lately I have been dropping into the pocket with the Garmur and my alt in a Kestrel to provide just a little more dps.

Good luck and fly safe // Aba
